Thread: By-pass rant

    Default By-pass rant

I don't normally drive the bypass during rush hour (or what constitutes rush hour in Nanaimo) but I had the misfortune to drive it yesterday.

Here is my Rant; Everyone driving in the left lane is riding everyone else bumper.... fine, but I need to get off the highway at the next exit and because the highway makes you get off on the left, I have to get into the left lane as soon as I can.

This is to the guy who zooms up behind me in a big hurry to get somewhere he didn't plan well enough to get to. If I am already driving at 20km over the speed limit (which I only do to keep with the flow of traffic) I am not going to speed up so you can go 40 km over the speed limit. I don't care if you pass me on the right to get by me, which by the way is where you have to be to continue on the highway at that particular exit anyways. Cutting me off, honking and giving me the finger as you drive by me on the right because I don't feel like risking my life at unsafe speeds only makes you look like a loser, not me.

    grrr /end of rant

    Default no argument from me!

I drive a LOT and I am always getting tailgated by some testosterone addled idiot. The funny thing is that more often than not it is a German car. Usually a BMW or sporty Volkswagen. What the heck is up with that?
Contrary to the commercials, you are not "entitled" to risking the lives of others just because some sales person has told you that "owning the road" is an option included in the sale.

When they pass me on the right giving me the finger, I smile brightly and wave at them. Really pisses them off

    Default And then there are..

... the fools that get in the fast lane at the Rutherford exit and stay there doing 80 all the way to 2nd avenue, because that's where they want to get off, occasionally talking on the cell phone, and of course predominately female.

I don't understand how women are supposed to read this and not get all "uppity" or "PC police" on your ass, but if you inserted some ethnic group there instead it would seem like you just wandered out of the 50's.

    Or did you, actually?

    Exclamation Only my observations.

Others opinions may be different, and thank you for bringing up ethnicity. Definitely on topic.

I've noticed that the Island has a greater porportion of people who drive in the left lane who are going perhaps 1/2 km/hr faster than those in the right....and that they are in no hurry to move to the right lane either.....mind you, at the time we are all usually going at least 20 over, so I guess I shouldn't complain...

There are way too many people out there on the roads driving in the wrong lanes at the wrong speeds, with their turn signals on 8 blocks before they plan on turning, talking on cell phones, eating sandwiches, watching DVD's, smoking, applying makeup or shaving, drinking, using PDA's. GPS's, and searching for WiFi for their laptops, and the odd one that thinks that if they change clothes while driving that nobody will notice and then there are the ones that cannot see past the steering wheel. All of them make driving dangerous for those that just want to drive and arrive alive at our destination.

Do people not get into their cars with a pre-planned route on where they are going and how they are going to get there, anymore?
