Yay, we found a wedding location!

We're not getting married next year like we had postponed it to be and are getting married THIS October!

We are having the ceremony at the waterfalls in Bowen Park (theyr'e doing renos there right now and are also cleaning it up!) and I was amazed at how easy it would be to get married in a city park!

I called a woman with Parks and Rec (I think.. I got a number from here somewhere but they gave me the number for the person who takes care of bookings). Her name is Janelle and her number is 755-7517. There is no cost to hold a ceremony in a city park. All you have to do is sign a contract (they'll mail it to you even!) and return it to them and tehre you go!

So excited to have a venue. Now on to finding a photographer and florist.

Wonderful!!! Saving a buck here and there makes a difference! Bowen is a good local area.easy to get to, plenty of parking!

FLorists...try the Big food store deal...cheaper and just as beautiful.......I know Save On does wedding arrangements, as I am sure other stores do the same. Not dissin' local florists! Maybe get a local florist to do the bridal bouquet

Lots of photographers out there.online should give you a run down of local guys and gals.

    COngratz!

From an email sent to NanaimoInformation.com:

"Can we get married on the bridge down by the water. do you have any suggestions atleast the top three."

Which bridge do they mean, I wonder? Not the highway bridge over the Millstream .... probably Swy-A-Lana Lagoon?

I'm sure we've already gone over the top locations in this thread, most of which probably ARE by the water.

I think they do mean the bridge at Swy-a-Lana. Whenever I see that bridge, I think "perfect wedding photo op" I wonder if you're allowed, because I've never seen anyone get married down there.

...I don't know what made me think of this the other day, but wouldn't Newcastle Island be an awesome place for a wedding ceremony?

This conversation is now officially ancient. Last summer I got married on Newcastle Island, in the very location I recommended in the first page of this thread. How time rolls.

Anyway, someone emailed NanaimoInformation.com with this:
Can you tell me what I need to do to organize my wedding ceremony in Neck Point? Do you have to book your slot? Is there a cost? Are there areas off limits? Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Maffeo-Sutton/Swy-a-Lana Lagoon Park
Map | Save | Add Event | Write a Review
Located on Nanaimo's downtown waterfront, this park is host to a number of summer festivals, and is also the departure point of the Newcastle Island ferry. Swy-a-Lana lagoon is a man-made saltwater lagoon and utilizes the natural ebb and flow of the tides to create a habitat for marine life. An arched pedestrian bridge leads from the lagoon to the rest of the park.
