When I first looked at it, I wondered if it was some kind of failed prototype for a new model of PortaPotti. It's hard to tell what anything is, because I have a problem with the perspective, that is, the size of all these things. Maybe it's a failed attempt at building a smoker? Advice: old refrigerators work way better as smokers.

I'm surprised that Hydro hasn't done anything about these things which, honestly, to me, look like things that were simply dumped. But then, I have the same question as another poster--"How the heck did they get what looks like a partly-built boat in there?"

    Default Another boat question . . .

which may belong here, or in History, so I apologize. Does anyone remember a large ferro-concrete boat hull that sat keel up in the driveway or front yard of a house virtually at the corner where Brechin runs into Departure Bay Road near Brooks Landing? (Where the incoming ferry traffic heads up to the old Island Highway.)

That hull sat there for years, and for all I know it may still be there. Does anyone know the history of that? I was always surprised that there weren't neighbours complaining about it, because it sat there for years.

It looks like this was part of a catamaran (sp) boat. Someone has been sanding and fiberglassing it fairly recently, within the few months my buddy saw someone working on this heep. There also appears that someone was living under it...for a while. I doubt it was built there im just absolutely having a difficult time imagining it being brought in there, its in two peice so it must have been seperated and hauled in on flatbed trailers. Theres also wat looks to be stairs or a ladder built into the hull on the left in the picture...I need to know what this is its driving me crazy.

I would maybe make the assumption that what looks like a boat of some sort was actually built on these very grounds by the natives. It does look very large and is sitting on blocks. May have been built as some form of gathering place when curing the meats.

My husband also thinks this land belongs to the first nations and hydro only has right of way to the property. This makes sense to me.

(Not sure about your boat hull on Brechin, Nostradama, but there's also a post/photo at the bottom of this page about an old buried boat downtown...)

If I remember correctly I was told about them quite a few years ago and they are at least boat hauls for a large catamaran. I think they belong to some one in the trailer park. I don't see why anyone would work on them since they have been sitting there for more than 10 years. Have fun trying to get them out of there!

...yes, they are catamaran hulls...a friend of mine who works at the modular home park was living under them last summer....the hulls belong to the management and so does the property under the power lines...they were supposed to be mated to-gether and made into a water-craft of some sort....my friends dog is buried close by them as that was his last resting place too......I can't actually see the hulls moving anywhere for a long, long time....they are starting to split apart everywhere, so I can't honestly see them going anywhere.........stan the man
