Ah yes , the Besse family. I spent many hours in the Kozy Korner. In between classes & such. Mid 70's. I remember great service. Man, how things change. I now believe it is the home of Budda Bing Pizza. Not bad pizza. I believe they had a son that attended high school at NDSS at the same time I did. We should add this to the Fred Magrum post!!!!!! Old days in Harewood!!! The Hood, as it is now called?!!

I agree--I think we need another thread "Remembering NDSS and the Hood" or something like that. Wow! The stories we could all tell about NDSS, from both sides. At least I could be a source of info on "Whatever happened to . . . " teacher types.

You are thinking of Ted Miller. .. .. I believe they were brothers.

Ted Miller ran as a candidate for the federal NDP serving as our MP from 1979-84 losing out to Ted Schellenberg (PC) in 1984.

Maybe I'm wrong and if so, someone please correct me. But Ted Miller was the sitting NDP MP for Nanaimo, Dave Stupich retired as MLA and ran against him at the NDP nominating meeting for the MP candidacy, where normally an incumbent elected official would be pretty well automatically renominated by his/her party. But Dave Stupich ended up getting the nomination. As I recall it, there were some pretty heavy feelings about the whole thing.

As I said, if I'm wrong, someone please correct me. And it's time for a new thread to move this to. We've wandered far, far away from the concerns of the young lady possibly moving to Nanaimo.

Please, I'd really, really like to just stay the way I am--Nostradama. Nothing more, nothing less. One thing, 'tho--I loved my students the way I would have loved my kids. And I miss each and every one of you.

Ted Miller won the election in '79 and was returned in '80
Schellenberg won in '84 losing to Stupich in '88
Bob Ringma won the riding from Stupich in '93

The majority of the constituents wanted Stupich (a recent provincial politician) to run against Schellenberg believing that he had a stronger historical ties to the residents then Ted Miller (who had not been the sitting MP at the time of the nominiation but out of the picture for 4 years).
