I think everyone should understand that his contract was signed (and decided) much before John Ruttan entered politics. If you are truly upset about Jerry's compensation, you should ask about the compensation of any senior management position. I think you will find that Ted Swabey's, Andy Laidlaw's, Doug Holmes', Al Kenning's. etc. contracts all contain the same type of conditions. To believe otherwise is not informed. There are many things at the City that should be investigated and if you are truly concerned, I suggest that you investigate. John Ruttan might be a good place to start, by asking questions of him. I think you will find him approachable, and a good businessman. If you think Jerry's settlement was unneccessary, you should look into the other senior management contracts. I believe it can all be obtained through the Freedom of Information... But, don't just support Jerry, or complain about his compensation, without investigating what others may have, or have, received.

My problem with the whole scenairo is not the amount of money that Jerry is getting, but why are we paying him to sit at home when he could have continued to do his job?

That comment has been up on the Daily News site for 20 hours now, and we all now how closely the Daily News usually reviews (and removes) some reader feedback. Normally a comment like that gets removed pretty quickly, unless the newspaper has confidence in the accuracy of the item.

I think The Nanaimo Daily News needs to do a little more serious investigating about many issues concerning Council and staff. Gossip is gossip until it is substantiated. The fact that this comment was up for so long without being removed is not surprising to me. The commentor obviously is , or was in a position to know about the"gossip'. The people on the street know about a lot of things that the newspapers seem to be unaware of. Remember what happened to Dawn Tyndall in the last election!

Personally, this happened 2 yrs ago and another election is about to happen. Why not CONCENTRATE ON THE PRESENT! Truly I think we all know that Gerry Berry was a very WISE MAN!! Get over it and move on with life!!!!!
