I understand exactly what you're saying about differences in relationships. A friend who worked for the City of Nanaimo was able to move out and up, but went through some very unpleasant times while there.

The same friend, mentioned in a post very close to this one, who recently resigned from a position similar to Berry's elsewhere without finishing the length of the contract he was currently working under, received a hefty "leaving" bonus when he moved into private industry, after being head-hunted by a multinational corporation. Then received a hefty "hiring" bonus from the company he's now working for. They would have paid his relocation costs, too, if they'd been necessary. The city that he was working for until recently paid his relocation costs when he began working for them, too.

Personally, I can't wait to visit Dubai (if my health holds up), where this couple, of whom the wife is my closer friend, will at some point be sent by his new multinational corporation employer for about six months, living cost-free in a company apartment, free car and driver, free household help. Having seen recent pictures of Dubai, it seems to be the jewel of the Middle East. Huge fantastic buildings, huge developments, huge oil money. After all, if people like David Beckham, the soccer player, and his wife Victoria ("the artist formerly known as Posh Spice" haha) have vacation homes there, it can't be all that bad. I'm planning on coming back with the best and last tan of my life.

Seems to me, that Mr. Berry was informed that he should retire soon and was in negotiations for severance when he got wind of something with a bit of smell to it and decided enough was enough and he wanted out now rather then later.What you have just read may not be reality or is it?

So the question now remains: dirty work at the City Hall crossroads that Berry wanted nothing to do with and wanted out now--or something else? As you've said, time will tell.

Indeed time will tell. Dirty work at City hall Gerry wanted nothing to do with? A fall out that Gerry didnt want on him?

Jerry has refused to answer question,s indicating in an e-mail that there is "nothing" he can say "beyond what the mayor has stated in his release."

The Mayor while speaking on another subject closely related said the independent performance review, of the bylaw which gave Berry the ability to hire staff without political interference, initiated by council members is now on hold.

Council members do not plan to replace Berry, instead opting to move deputy manager Al Kenning into the top position in the interim with the hope he will take over the job.



In my own personal opinion, I believe it is a witch hunt by some council members that could result in creating a strong wedge between councilors, the mayor and staff. We could end up with a faction here, a faction there and other factions everywhere.

Now, all need is to find is a Why?

There was a comment in the first article in the online version of the Daily News about Jerry resigning about the wages that Jerry made. Someone stated he made more then the US President and the Prime Minister.

He never made more then the Prime Minister nor the President of the United States. The Prime Minister makes $301,600 a year and the President of the US makes $400,00 a year. While the Prime Minister can lose his seat or power due to an election, the US President is there for a guaranteed 4 years (rare is it, that they don't last that long) for a total of $1.6 Millon or $3.2 Million if they get re-elected.

I am assuming the pretentions of what is being said here is all here say and based on some false misleading info. It seems that some comments on this thread regarding the resignation of Jerry Berry is because of some unethical decisions or whatever by Jerry Berry. Who the hell has backed any of this to be true. All Ages you are always the voice of reason and I am glad for that.
It is such a strange situation and there is so litle transparency that folks cannot help but wonder.
I am sure that as in the Vancouver City Manager case it will all come to light.
All is not as it seems.Or is it?
