Thread: Dear drivers

    Default Dear drivers

    Dear drivers,

I have a few things to bring to your attention and hope you have it in you to correct yourselves. I will lay this out simply as it appears you aren't too bright and following the issue, I will guide you to the correct thing to do.

Speed of travel. I seem to find those that are unable to maintain a speed near the posted limits. If the speed zone is 70, please travel at least 65. Others are being held back by you and you are either talking on the phone, pointing things out to people in your car and generally not paying attention.

How about conduct your business OFF the road and attempt to go nowhere until you are done.

    ************************************************** *******

We all know the roads here are crappy. Apparently so does the city leaders. When their cars get broken, the roads are suddenly being repaired. And as you know, they often close down one lane to do this. I know you know what is going on well in advance because I saw the signs, too. THey say the lane is changing or shifting and the huge orange signs with large black arrows told you long ago to change lanes.

But, NNOOOOOOO. You stay in the shut down lane to pass all those in line {properly}. Then, when I refuse to allow you to cut in line, you get all mad and still try to squeeze me out. Too bad, jackass. Here's a lesson for you:
Ignorance on your part does not constitute inconveince on my part.

I wish they would build ignorance traps for those people that do that. Have everything setup as normal and when people ignore the first two warning signs, they be directed to a dead end area where they would have to backup to get out. But, they can't. Other ignorant drivers will just keep coming in behind them. And, since the cops around here are only good for writing tickets, they wouldn't have to hunt their prey. Everyone caught in the trap would get nasty tickets for failing to obey traffic control signs.

Ok, bad ignorant drivers, heres how to not get caught in a trap. Pay attention to the signs and react early. Dang, thats simple.

    ************************************************** *******

This is a violation I see several times a day: blocking intersections. Hey, ignorant driver, did you know you ain't suppossed to do that??? Same goes for driveways. Now, if the cops weren't afraid to stand in one area, he could scribe more tickets in a hour than he would in a month. Mostly at Rock City and the highway. When the ferry traffic come blasting through town, you almost cannot get on or off Rock City.

My solution to this is for each driver restudy the drivers book to verify this law. And, have a cop that doesn't want to do anything really hard, like police work, he could just stand there scribing tickets.

Of course the better solution would be direct ferry traffic right on out to the other highway, not through town. We have enough ignorant drivers here, we don't need to import more from other places.

    ************************************************** *******

DRL. Anyone know what that means?? It is a device mandated without research as to how it works. It is "daytime running lights". Since 1988, BC has made it law that all vehicles be equipped with this {not really} life saving device. Someone with half a brain and alot of political clout decided these were great safety devices. So, its a law.

The used-up, strung-out, burned-out hippies that accidently survived their youth are now running the country and they have a safety plan for everything. But, they never did any research about it.

DRL were to be useful as evenings as the sunsets adn if someone forgets to turn on their lights. At least they have headlights and can see where they are going.

Where the burned out leaders failed themselves and all others, was they didn't pay attention to----- the rear lights. DRL only work the front lights, not the rear. Ever notice how many people are driving around with just headlights and the tail lights are all out. Epic failure !!!!

Someone will have to send the leaders a note on a rolling paper telling them about this screw up. They should have mandated ALL lights ALL the time, or just left it up to us and OUR BETTER judgement. But, judgement was taken from you because they know better. What they think they know better of is a matter of short debate.

Perhaps every damned one of them should be forcible removed from office and people of common sense and without personal agenda be placed in.

The drivers that stay in their lane and only merge at the end of the pylons are the ones following the law. Do not merge early, wait until you are at the end. When you get there, alternate. There is no need to try to jump the queue, alternate. Simple and effective and quicker. Now if everyone just followed the law.

Show me where in the MOT or Hiway traffic laws it says that "idiots" have the right to ignore lane closure signs and butt in? I have no issue with alternating at all but that means just that - alternate - not 6 people from the closed lane trying to move over.

Just like DRL - most people are quit dim when they get behind the wheel - speed doesn't kill, stupidity does. Driving is a priviledge, not a right. Part of the problem here is that MOT and the city have conflicting views. I agree with MOT, get rid of all the left hand turn lanes and save peoples lives.

Stupid is as stupid does I'm afraid.

Sounds like a plan to me. I remember the days when "politician" wasn't a profession--like "I got elected and I'm going to stay here and make it a permanent job and since I can decide what my pension and benefits are going to be, I'm going to make sure they're darned good." What happened to the days when a politician was someone who lived down the street from you, knew that some day s/he was gonna go back to their regular day job, even mowed their own lawn?

And if you wanted to complain about something, you actually complained to the politician, not to some third assistant to the "executive assistant to XXXX." And the "third assistant", seems to me, is usually someone's unemployable son-in-law.

One thing I've learned: at the provincial level or federal level, if you complain or comment often enough, reasonably enough (not ranting), and keep it clean, they gradually move you up the food chain. I think they have a "red flagging" system, they red flag you, and you automatically get the "executive assistant" and s/he usually passes it on to the Political PooBah.

Another thing I've learned: the city councillor who probably has the least time, busy guy, is usually the most prompt in responding to complaints or comments. Still operates in the real world, hasn't been in politics since the day after the dinosaurs died. That makes a real difference.

Smokey I agree with you re: merging at the signs....in Calgary there is perpetual road construction so to merge early you are actually not using the few hundred meters of capacity on the road....what they should consider is mandating alternating rights of way to force the open lane to let in the other drivers...
Re: daytime running lights...I agree it does make certain drivers not put on their headlights so the taillights are also on...perhaps a law that when the streetlights come on, so should your headlights...
Oops sorry, both my suggestions would require COURTESY and COMMON SENSE...what was I thinking???
Now, if only we could do something about that 'left blinker' driver!

The left blinker driver - that's impossible. Nanaimo is the perpetual blinker city. I turn left here somewhere in the next 20 km so I'll just keep it on and go slow in the fast lane...

I understand that Motor Home Manufacturers will now be setting the right blinker as the default.

I left here and moved to Calgary for almost 10 years. ATU knows how to make a road, people know how to use them - it is very different here.
