Hey Girls and Boys, i know im prolly gonna get back lash for this, but i wanted to bring up a bar that alot of you probably dont go to. Ill explain a bit about it, and see what people think.
its called 70 Below and is located in the dorchestor hotel, as some of you might know, its known as the "gay bar" but it isnt just that, that place is the most accepting, easy going, and relaxed bar ive ever been in, its got a great mixed crowd, not just bi and gay, but most of the time 50 percent of the clientelle there is straight, the girls love to go there to dance, and alot of straight guys go there to hang, becuase of its relaxed and easy going atmosphere, theres never any fights, the staff will gladly play your song requests, i think the best way i can describe it, is, its like hanging out in your own home, with a full bar and a great sound system.
from what i see, Wensdays are karaoke nights and it goes from 10-2am (i think thats the latest karaoke in town) and its usually very busy and a good crowd.
and friday and saturday nites are good as well, although i have noticed the crowd shows up there late, typically 11pm or so.
That aside, a note to the moderator; You should include, in your forums, a place for "alternate sexuality" people to Post, and showcase Nanaimo's Open mindedness, there is a large Gay/Bi Segment in nanaimo, not to mention our close proximity to Vancouver and Victoria, that is typically left out, and theres alot of Gay Tourist dollars out there (double incomes and no kids LOL)
that Nanaimo could benefit from in all aspects. so just some rambling thoughts folks, please feel free to post back

Yay! I've gotta back that up. 70 Below is a great place to hang out. Well, I haven't been in there since the name changed (is it different management, too?), but I sure had a blast when it was Bluebeard's, and before that when it was...Neighbours? It's a small venue with kinda low ceilings, which gives it charm and intimacy.

My friend Dug used to do a drag bingo night there; he was a dishwasher at the time so his drag name was "Dishy"; there was an awesome night when his girlfriend was there and she was reaming out a bunch of old guys who were making sexy comments at "Dishy". It was a hilarious, bizarre situation.

True. I always have a good time @70. The karaoke is a little more comfortable and the people are friendly. I've managed to drag a few friends there already and they've enjoyed it.

I fully support 70 below as well. And this is from a Straight mans perspective. I have a wicked time at Karaoke (Usually the only night I go) but I have made tons of gay and straight friends, guys and girls there and would recommend it to anyone.

I met a lesbian named claire last weekend at a pub and she is from scotland SHES AWESOME! I will be taking her down there tomorrow for Karaoke so anyone reading this WATCH OUT! cause we are going to tear it up!

Oh and as for your suggestion for gay / lesbian / bi forums I will be putting in personals sections for them, however I dont want to separate straight chat from regular chat because really we are all the same, regardless of sexuality. If that makes sense.

Hey Morgan ..lol i just found this site through a websearch. What ya at on here ? did ya start this site? Yeah Below 70 is pretty cool..heck i meet more straight women there than u can shake a stick at..lol I'm in Country idol contest there..its on monday nights. Its not on tonight because of easter..but its back next week for last week of auditions.I wonder do they have karaoke regularly on monday nights? Ah i'll just ask next monday.

I LOVE 70 Below. And I'm straight. It's so much fun to go to cuz everyone there is no nice and accepting. You can dance like a fool and everyone will just come join you! It's fantastic.
