Thread: Snow removal on Sidewalks in Nanaimo

Regarding the shoveling of sidewalks we should all be glad we don't live in these cities that get way more snow then we do. Windsor Ontario - Who removes the snow from sidewalks? Just a few that I found. Under City By-law 8544, the owners and/or tenants are required to remove snow or ice in front of their property within twelve (12) hours; owners or tenants of commercial properties have four (4) hours following the snowfall or formation of ice. Clear sidewalks are essential for many citizens especially those with disabilities, people who enjoy walking as form of exercise and children who walk to and from school. Snow covered sidewalks increase the likelihood of slip and fall accidents.

If snow is removed from the streets, towards the gutter. If not to the citys right of way adjacent to the sidewalk. I gues, for once, I have to say Quebec is further advanced than those other cities quoted here. The Cities there have been clearing and sanding sidewalks since 1905.

To actually have curbs and gutters indicates you don't live in a part of Nanaimo more than 20 years old. My house and street are over 70 years old, and not a sidewalk or gutter in sight.
Gearing up and having the equipment and manpower available for snow removal like those less fortunate Canadians would be simply a waste, as trouble with snow is really such an unusual event here. Which is why most people just wait for the warmer weather and rain to get rid of the dreaded stuff, and every now and then we get fooled and have to deal with it.
In many parts of the city, if you clear your sidewalk, the plow just throws it back anyway.

It indicactes nothing other than you remind me of a person named Robbie who used to post here. Where I live was built more than 40 years ago, and sidewalks were in way before that.

In that time I have lived on Highland Blvd., Uplands Drive, Chelsea St., Chesterlea St., Nova St., Hammond Bay Road, Portsmouth Rd. and now Cadogan Street.
None of those streets had curb or gutter or sidewalks (unless you count the painted line), and to my knowledge, still don't.

There are a lot of streets in Nanaimo that do not have sidewalks other then the painted white line. I might go so far to say more don't have sidewalks then do. I may be wrong on that though. The good old sun is melting all the snow right now - it will be gone soon, yeah!!!!
