British Columbia: Mark Poisin, A 47 year male and a vagabond was arrested on Monday night at the Departure Bay ferry terminal allegedly carrying several ounces of methamphetamine.


The police said POISIN having no fixed address was apprehended around 10: 30 pm by members of the Nanaimo RCMP Municipal Drug Unit as he walked off a BC Ferry that had just arrived from Tsawwassen. he was found to be in possession of three ounces of methamphetamine, drug packaging materials and a digital scale.

Charges were sworn against POSIN yesterday. He was remanded into custody to appear before a Nanaimo Provincial court judge today. He is charged with one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the CDSA and two counts of Breach of an existing Undertaking.

This is the third time in the past two years POSIN has been arrested with a large quantity of drugs after arriving in Nanaimo onboard a BC ferry. In December of 2009, he was arrested with 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine as he disembarked from the Duke Point ferry. Then again in February 2010,he was arrested at the Duke Point ferry terminal with another 2 ounces of methamphetamine. In the first case, he was sentenced to time served while in custody and in second incident, he received an acquittal.

NANAIMO (NEWS1130) - For the third time in two years, police have seized ounces of methamphetamine from the same man as he was walking off a BC Ferry on Vancouver Island. The latest arrest happened on Monday evening.

Nanaimo Mounties say 47-year-old Mark Poisin was disembarking at Departure Bay from Tsawwassen when police picked him up. Investigators seized three ounces of meth, packaging material and a digital scale.

Officers apparently learned of Poisin's arrival during a separate drug investigation in Nanaimo.

"It's just part of one of our criminal investigations" explains Constable Gary O'Brien with Nanaimo RCMP. "Our drug units are aware of what's happening on the streets and it's just another indication that they are staying abreast of drug traffickers coming into our community."

Poisin has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Breach of a Current Undertaking.

O'Brien tells us Poisin was also picked up at Duke Point ferry terminal in December 2009 with 2.5 ounces of meth, and again two months later at the same terminal with two ounces of the drug.

"In the first one he [was sentenced to] time served awaiting trial. In the second one, he was aquitted on the drug charges," says O'Brien.
