Thread: Nco Group?

  1. #1

    Default Nco Group?

I just moved to Nanaimo a few months ago and in my search to find a FT job, I have noticed NCO Group always seems to be hiring in mass numbers every few weeks or so.

Can anyone tell me about this company? Are there as bad to work for as they say?

    Any feedback is helpful, thanks.

I worked there about 6 years ago when it was MCI. Incoming calls from the USA. It was known as the sweat shop then. I stayed for about 2 years but did not put up with any crap and did my job well. This business is funded by Human Resources - Provincial Government, well was then, so they had to keep their quota numbers up in staff to keep up with their required funding restrictions. For anyone without a job and wants to get paid while training for 4 to 6 weeks what does one have to lose. Nothing; only gain more knowledge. This type of work requires a certain type of person but it is phone work and no face on face. I did it for a challenge and to try something new and was right of the wall for me. Never regret it. I did learn some great skills and today it has paid off for what I do now. Yes the amercians (OMG) were very challenging on the phone but if you can play the game and just smile with the punches it is a drop in the hat. I recommend anyone needing a job; go for it until something else comes along. When I worked there the wage was an hourly one but the bonuses were great! If you are good at it you can make good salary.

I was one of the older ones there (sorry no face hair, lol) and had a great time working with the wild ones. Do the job and don't get tied up in the office politic talks.

I actually tried walking out 2 times when I worked there and they stopped me. I was not one to mess with. I did my job but I also stood up to what was right and what was wrong. I guess you have to respect that.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to go back and try the training for 4 -6wks again. The classroom work was fun and lots of laughs. Just like going to school all over again only much more fun!

I worked there for a bit when I first received my work permit I stayed there for about 6 months it was ok job since i needed the money but they were cheap with pay. It is a slack job you sit in a chair and answer phones for T Mobile doing activations and adding of features for a cell phone company in the states.

The reason why it gets contracted to Canada it is cheaper to pay less money for T Mobile to dish out. Also you only Celebrate the American Holidays the Canadian ones do not matter since most of the American holidays are on different days and month from Canada.

If your looking for some quick money till u find another job than they are your people.

A close friend really liked the night shift there , it became quite a close little unit of workers. The phones were quieter at night so they got to know one another and had fun. Then they got a new super and were not allowed to talk. The friend works elsewhere now but it is a good starter job till what you really want comes up.
Second hand info but it concurs with those who have posted here.

Just heard that everyone (like 400 people) just got their notice today from NCO. They're gone.

    Can anyone confirm this?

I heard that a few months ago that it was going to happen. However this is not the first time! The will probably re-open under a new contract and providing government funding continues. After all they have also placed alot of people off the welfare payroll! Not knocking the welfare part as sometimes that is what people need to do as a bridge to get to the other side!!

I worked there around 2002 to 2004? Just an eye opener to somthing different! I survived the crap at that time because I knew my job rights and did my job well! I worked in the MCI department when it was that at that time! Telephone services for the residents in USA. Man oh man some pretty nutty calls from people in the USA that just liked to call us with very strange calls. I have the guy with the foot addition. On the other hand the USA has many many choices on who to use for a phone service! Very competitive there!
