It is as with most things (speaking of Haiti) a matter of perception. Canada, BC and even little old Nanaimo has a need for charity, right now. The working poor (aka part time at WW et all) and those even less fortunate and yet we'd easily send money to a part of the world that surely needs it but as one must look and think, when the media finds something else to flock to as they all tend to will the global community still be there to rebuild that nation?
Ask yourself this, if we had a similar event (god forbid) would we see the same charity? Or because we are a "rich" nation we'd just have to deal with it ourselves? I don't know.
Now back to that bit about WW, true, we all seem to want cheap products for a low price but if we are to continue as our friends to the south and become a complete nation of consumers then we will suffer that same fate as they currently are with all sorts of problems. I think people just need to understand where their money goes and you'd really start to see that attitude change.
