Welcome to the forum and Nanaimo, soon.
There are some big stores at the malls you mention, and also at Country Club Mall. There are a few more stores, too, all around Woodgrove.
There are certainly cheap deals at Boo's Streetware, downtown on the highway and Commercial.
Other than that, I'd recommend the thrift stores.
What are trainers? I always wondered in Harry Potter, too. Sounds like shoes.

foot locker in woodgrove has buy one get the next for 50% off right now - that should help you with buying your kswiss or nike - as they carry both. Also - saw some kswiss at Winners the other day (also at Woodgrove) for under $50.

There aren't any outlet stores in Nanaimo as far as I know. When I used to live on the mainland (an hour south of Vancouver) we would go across the border into Washington to go outlet shopping. If you go down to Bellingham you will find TONS of outlet stores, but beware the sometimes 3-4 hour wait at the border.

I've been to Malaspina for a haircut a couple of times. It's dead cheap and the students do a good job. It takes alot longer than usual but that's b/c the instructors have to check quite often throughout the cut (Not a bad thing) Last time I went, I think that I paid $6. They offer colours, etc. I think that it's become quite busy so phoning ahead it a good idea.

Superstore gives you 5 cents a litre back in a coupon you can use at their store.

At Co-op you can save 4% on gas by buying a $300 dollar gas card (you pay $288 for it). You can also get money back at the end of the year if you are a member. The yearly rebate varies and depends on how good of a year they've had. It's usually about 3%.

I go to the Canadian Tire gas station and get 5¢ back for each litre. You can't spend it on gas, but you can buy pretty well everything else at their store. I have a new drill, cordless car polisher and all sorts of cra... uhh great stuff.

The new store up by Petsmart and Canadian Tire is having a buy $50 worth of stuff get a $20 gift card. The catch is you have to use the gift card by January 7th. But....... If you are looking for stuff for the house... great time to go. The people in front of me bought a kitchen aid mixer for $295 and got 5 $20 cards (With a $5 purchase they cold have gotten 6).

    Ohhhh...
That is a very helpful shopping hint.

In my search for reusable porous glass vessels I attempted to access the Northfeild Community Market (aka dump). It appears it, along with the recycling centre, have moved. I notice in the threads that there is a new address for the recyling centre.... but does anyone know if they moved the market too?
