Although I've lived here all my life, I finally ventured into the "Bygone Books" store, on Saturday. I'm not sure how many years it has been at its location, but I finally went inside.
Location is corner of Skinner & Commercial Streets, across the street from the A-Channel studio.
What drew me inside was the trend of seeing maritime books displayed in the shop window. That's my passion, and so I finally went inside. Inside, I was greeted by the cheerful man at the till (presumably the shop owner), and was soon next to Mr. Tim Lander and his dog who were also inside for a while.
For me, it was kid-in-a-candy-store feeling, right away. I never got past the display at the front counter, because there I found the gem that I wanted ("Union Steamships Remembered", by Art Twigg), and was happy to pay the price to add it to my own collection of ship books. While processing my payment, I mulled over railroad books such as Van Horne's railway and a Nicholas Morant railway photography book (Morant is "The" photographer in CPR history). But I left those for next time.
Does anyone else have experiences buying / browsing at this book shop? I have yet to check out the entire store, and so I'm hopeful that the "ahhhhh" moments will continue for me.
