Bus tours of the mines? Are you sure, alas? That seems dangerous for tourists. Maybe it's just a tour of some of the sites above ground. (Here's a thread where we talked about why old coal mines are dangerous.)
Regarding that Nanaimo museum link that alas just posted: on that page is a link to a radio interview you can download, where a local historian talks about the mining history in Nanaimo. I'm listening now; it's got some neat facts about the old mines.

I don't know much about haunted areas of Nanaimo but I do know that after a few glasses of wine, walking through the grounds of the downtown churches gives me the heeby jeebies....nothing a little t & a injection into the mind can't get rid of.

"Grounds of the downtown churches", eh?
There's St Matthew's on the hill, which has an old graveyard (old by W. Canadian standards), and there's St Albert's on Fitzwilliam, right? which has no graveyard AFAIK. And then there's...which is the church on Church St, across from the Dorchester?
I like it when they're called "lichyards".

St Michaels anglican, or something like that. I've been there for a few funerals.

Default 2 places I know of

My house definitely has ghosties, residents that don't pay rent, chilly vaporous expirations, lovelies from a past life that didn't move on to the light. They are not malicious though, it's kinda cool having them around - they actually look out over us in a protecting sort of way, keeping the baddies out of our home. They said hello the night we moved in, quietly taking a peek, to see what kind of people we were in 'their house'. Since moving in and improving the house, sharing the love, and maintaining the peace with all around us, it's my understanding they think we are ok and welcome to stay in harmony.

The other ghostie I know of resides at my shop, 'Mermaid's Mug'. A large number of years ago the mug used to be an after hours, karaoke, shady special 'member's only' club - where 1 poor sap actually got killed - shot infact. I'm kinda sure that it's him lingering there now. He has been seen by a number of my customers, and felt by others - but again he is not malicious, kind of hip to the new positive energy flowing freely at the Mug. He does not like modern crap music though - over Christmas we made the mistake of putting on a 'modern' xmas cd -britney spears etc. he threw the breaker on that outlet immediately (other things still worked - just the cd player went off!) Anyway since then if we play particular cd's too long, he lets us know. At least he has good taste, and keeps us in line

The cemetery walks done by the museum are historical-focussing on the people and their contributions, not ghost-based.
The bus tour of the coal mines are all above ground historical sites led by Lynn Bowen.

There are tons of haunted buildings here in Nanaimo. I lead pre-book guided "Science of the Spirits" walking workshops if you can get a group together. Anyone game?

We go in the evening for an hour and a half. No drinking prior or we don't go out. (this was due to a couple of groups that did and they were a pain in the butt to lead.) As we are doing this for fun, we don't have to put up with this behavior.

I have done significant research and over the last tow years have heard many accounts from residentsn and researched their background.

By the way, I was the one who instigated the cemetery walks at the museum as I used to work there as the program/volunteer coordinator. They have been very popular.

I had a request for a ghost tour on June 13 at 7:30 pm from two people from Arizona. Anyone else want to join us?
Please no drinks ahead of time, it's not THAT kind of walk and it's not scarey. (You won't be allowed to attend if you arrive having had a drink or two.) More an open-minded consideration of life after death and the theories. It's also a place to safely share your experiences. Had a deja vu? A visit from a dead relative? Got a haunted house? Energetic healing? All these are topics for discussion.
Check out the web-site above to see the description.
