Who to talk to?

Before moving here, I used to do comic/MC nights at several night clubs and was a regular standup comedian at several more. But, since moving here, and not knowing anyone, it seems difficult to get a foot in a door anywhere. Does anyone have any contact information of the managers/owners of the local watering holes? If so, please let me know as I would like to get back to it.

Pound the pavement. Go to the bars/nightclubs and ask to talk to the entertainment director or whoever is in charge of the particular place you are interested. Quite often the bookings are done by that person who many not be the owner nor manager.

I've talked to some folks but it never seems to go anywhere. They say things like "let me see what I can do. I'll call you" and nothing happens. I was told that this is a tough scene around here, moreso if you aren't originally from here, and so far, it has proven to be so.

this is tough... nanaimo doesnt really have a "comedy club"... your best bet would be ask around to the pubs... You could probably ask the Spice Lounge as well but you'd have to do a lot of foot work to promote it.
