When Posting News Articles..
Sometimes there are articles online (say, on the local newspapers' websites) that you want to share with people, here. Here are the rules of how this should be done on NanaimoInformation.com:
1 - There absolutely must be a link to the original article. Please be careful to get the link (URL) of the actual article/story page -- not the URL of the home page or some category page that the story appears on in brief form.
2 - Ideally, you will post only a portion of the story, so that users are invited to visit the site where it originally appeared. This is just a professional courtesy to be extended to the original site, I think, since content and traffic are such commodities.
3 - If you will post the whole story here, you are expected to post it as only a portion of your own posting. In other words, if you copy an entire article here (and link to it), you must also post a body of new material that is unique - this will usually be a commentary on the article, written by yourself. This is like in the literary world; you can't print out someone's poem and show it off as you're own, but if print the poem in the midst of a review you're writing about it, then you're safe.
Questions are welcome.
