old ski HILL
theres not much to see. I heard they have a wind energy experiment on the mountain now.
hmm. i had heard that there was still remains of buildings and such.
Displaying my total ignorance, because I haven't been in the bush around Nanaimo since about 1982 (boy oh boy, do I miss fly fishing, but try being a single woman trying to "borrow" the fly-fishing husband of a woman who can't stand it herself and won't go fishing with him--impossible, or at least I've never found one, and I've really tried), but I admit that mountains don't move, so that's even more ignorant: is this abandoned ski resort anywhere near Green Mountain? At the beginning of the seventies, maybe earlier, a group of local doctors were developing a ski hill on Green Mountain. Might have crashed and burned when one of the guys installing a lift had a major cable let go, hitting him in the head; killing him, I believe. That might be the site of an abandoned ski hill, because after that I didn't hear any more about it.
im not sure to be honest. i myself am not to familiar with the local mountain ranges. would green mountain be considered local?
My husband talks about skiing at Green mountain when he was young. I found some info - http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=h...26tbs%3Disch:1 Scroll down about for Green mountain information. This as well http://islandadventurer.ca/blog/2009...reen-mountain/
Green Mountain was considered the Nanaimo ski area, in the 1970's. There was even a highway exit-sign at the Nanaimo Lakes Rd. exit from the highway (near Bungy Zone today) that said "Green Mountain Ski Area".
neato! so it did exist! would love to see pics of the old lodge(or whats left of it).
That'd be cool. Is it still possible to drive up there? I see on Google earth that there APPEARS to be something up there... Is this anywhere near where the ski area was?
