Why do local restaurants charge from $2.95 to $3.95 for a glass of Coke when I buy 4.26 litres for as little as $1.79 (6X710 ml), and usually $1.99? No wonder people are spending less in restaurants and bars.

It has to be because of the value add with the server wages and so on.

They have to pay stocking and other overhead where I get mine. I still say excessive
I'm only guessing but it stands to reason both are correct.

The price of a beer or soft drink has always been a high commodity that you pay for when going out. However there was a day when a desinated driver was there to do the driving while those in their company could drink and have fun and spend $$$ for the establishment: the driver got to drink coffee or pop for free in the bars. Maybe this needs to come back into society to solve some of the new issues today that is scaring people to go out and have a drink?

i wonder if you were to go out with a bunch of friends, whom were spending a ton of money on booze at an establishment - if you asked the manager (not the minimum wage monkey but the manger on duty) if you could have your pop or coffee for free because you're the DD. i believe employees dont have to pay for pop or coffee so it makes sense? wouldnt they make more money if your friends have more drinks so you can drive them home? can someone try this next time they're out? hehe
I remember it was norm and not so long ago that DD always got to drink pop or coffee for free. After all watered down pop and a normal cup of coffee is not an expensive commodity. However selling liquor to a table of friends for the evening who are spending and tipping will more than pay for their friend who will drive them home whom only wants a couple cups of cheap coffee or pop for free. Soon the bars will wake up and think with logic and bring back this sound practice.
PS: what is a minimum wage monkey? These servers if good at their job make a hell of a lot of money in tips throughout the evening and make a very good wage way above the minimum. Monkey?? Don't get it.
Sorry but a very bad taste in words.

I usually just order water with my meal. Unless it is breakfast, and then I might order coffee.

Just go to a restaurant with free refills and drink 8 cups and you get your value back haha.
Seriously, I know people who were in the restaurant business and a cup of pop might cost them 25 cents. That cost varies on restaurant size and its a figure from 5 or 6 years ago but regardless its very cheap. I think pop or just drinks in general that have the highest profit margin compared to the meals.
