Cambie and Queens usually have live music.
The Vault (coffee shop with tons of space) often has poetry, open mike, etc.
There is a dance bar between te Palace (bar) and Commercial St but I forget its new name.
The local legion halls, as well as other halls like the Cavalotti Lodge, often have events.
All the pubs have karaoke nights and music trivia.
    What else - anyone?

I find more entertainment in the surrounding hills at night, with a bottle and some close friends - but then, I am 32 and married, so there isn't much incentive for me to go drink and dance for the vixens.

    Essentially nothing. And I'm 21.

I love the Vault, but it's no party down there. It's just a cafe that occassionally has some quiet music or poetry. The Palace is pretty freaken skeevy, but here in dumpy ole Nanaimo it's somehow a star attraction cuz there's nothing else to do. Pubs as always do karaoke nights and music trivia, which is fine but not overally exciting, and most of our pubs are full of older people and are kinda run-down. The Spice Lounge is nothing to get thrilled about- I had a better dance floor at my sixth grade dance. Queen has live bands.. but it's Nanaimo so we sorta have limited selection of bands. There's the Globe. Haven't been there for awhile. There's live music there sometimes, and exotic dancing but the dancing isn't really great and the girls don't have much of a stage.

Most people our age go over to Van for the weekend, and just live in town during the weekday. In town, they maybe smoke weed, 4x4, and attend house parties as the main forms of entertainment while going out to the pubs and such on a weekday.

    Best I can suggest.

yeah, I couldn't agree with you MORE.

Honestly, Everywhere is pretty much the same. People and atmosphere is pretty much the same here when you go out. Thats why I tend to get fed up with going here. Sometimes, there are some cool bands at the cambie, that depends what you are into though. The Queens sometimes can be fun, I suggest going there when they have reggae night. Thats about it.

The Vault is a good place to go if you want to chill, have a cup of coffee and listen to some music. Nice place.

Then there is "Level 2" the only club-like place/atmosphere in Nanaimo, if your into clubs, top 40 music and overpriced drinks, I suggest going there.

It can be fun to dance there, if you like that, but yeah I'm with you pinklillies, Vancouver on the weekend forsure.

sadly, i cannot agree more.. im 28. up until recently i was throwing raves in nanaimo for the past 5 years (doin that whole family thing right now! i'll be back in a few years I find that partying in the woods with a huge sound system, reliable security and 500 people is so much better than any entertainment that the city of nanaimo can provide.

i used to go to Victoria quite often to party.. nanaimo used to be pretty bumpin til city council decided to stop all the fun here and flood the streets with cops and now its pretty much a crime to be drunk downtown Nanaimo.
