Where in Nanaimo? Take 2

I like how well the Winchelsea Islands can be seen in that second pic... I've always wanted to paddle over to those...thanks Soup Dragon !

A good time to do that would be during this year's bathtub race But stay clear of the tubs, of course! Could be a great place to watch the race from.

Yep. If I remember right, there is a series of lookouts at different elevations along the old logging road. I remember going up there a few years back. But I have not been back since.

Yeah, I noticed in one of the pics there was some sort of retaining wall. And I thought, "what the heck is that?" Nanaimo is becoming so spread out, I can't handle it at times.

I'd guess it's the Millstream, and probably Barsby Park (down near the estuary) but I'm not sure - I don't recognize that exact spot.

Mr. Rat,

you are correct...as an aside it's too bad this area has been allowed to deteriorate as much as it has....the little series of falls in this park are really quite nice...however, there is a lot of garbage in the area and the city really needs to spend some time cleaning it up and removing the underbrush as it's making the area a haven for "campers"...

Pretty sure that's the distinctive shape of Rutherford Ridge in the background, in the exact center of the photo. So, I have some idea of where this may have been taken. But, that mass on the right is looking a little different from what I would expect it to look like, there. So, maybe I'm wrong about Rutherford Ridge.
