Thread: My Review of Mix Restaurant

Default My Review of Mix Restaurant

I was out on Tuesday night at Mix Restaurant on Bowen Road, it was the old Fast Eddies. There was nothing remaining of the former restaurant. It was very modern and funky looking. The booth we had was nice and very private. I tried the 8 oz New York, it was great, nice and tender, but the coolest thing was the way they did the mash potatoes, it was wrapped and flash fried, very delicious. My meal came to about $30 bucks with a beer. My friend had a couple of appies, the Duck Spring Rolls and Crab Cake, she liked it. I think her meal came out to around $25 with a cocktail.

We definitely be back, we chatted with the owner (Tuesday Night wasn't that busy) and he told us about he amount of work to gut the place, they've only been open for about a week and things were going well. He also told us to check out the new website www.mixnanaimo.com , It looks pretty cool, it doesn't have the drinks menu up yet, but everything else was there. All and all a very good evening!! Nanaimo needs more non chain eateries!!

Just looking at their website, makes me not want to try it....tacky plastic lights and hard plastic chairs with a large video monitor on the wall....3 strikes already....and their menu looks like so many new places in Nanaimo... trying to please everybody but not knowing which type of food to specialize in...

Pics on a website mean nothing. They probably hired someone to put it on the net. Trying to true setting will only tell the true story. As someone else said you need to try to new establishment at least two times as there are times when there are exceptions to the knowledge.

Great...I'll let someone else try it and report here regarding that, and if I'm all wrong, then I'll try it....Don't you think that the pics are of the actual restaurant?

Pics are from actual restaurant. Coming from Vancouver we're quite blessed with great seafood. After trying their dishes and some of their sushi, I must say it definitely ranks high. I can tell the chefs did a great job because presentation in the dishes were top notch as it shows in the picture. The delicious "flash fried potatoes" is what you see on the website. My favourite was the crab cakes, flash fried potatoes, duck rolls and the sushi were all made fresh.

I was too full by the time dessert rolled around but the people around me that tried it definitely liked it. I'd definitely come back again!

Thumbs up for trying out this new business and glad it was a good experience.

The only reason I mentioned that web sites are not always the true picture of experience is because many resturants show great pic but not true to the actual experience. EX: LOL MCD. A website can show pics of get food choices but do they really look like that when serviced and of course taste is most important along with service and price.

Too expensive for my tastes. I'd only go if someone else was paying for the meal.
The best thing about Fast Eddies was it really fit into the neighbourhood. There's not a lot of expensive houses right nearby and not a lot of people who come in to the area to watch the Hockey game or do something else at Beban are looking to spend upwards of 20 dollars per person. At much as Fast Eddies was a greasy spoon, the service was fast and friendly and the food was good for the price and it was well within walking distance for many families that couldn't afford to spend 20 to 30 per person.
I wish the owners' luck, because I think they are going to need it - it's a tough neighbourhood to open a more expensive restaurant in.

I personally, didn't like it. I went the first week they opened, not sure if that had something to do with it. The food portions were not that large, i found it overpriced and the sushi was not that great. I ordered tempura, which came cold, then I asked for a new one which was a bit better. I might give it a second chance

I agree with Tiomela. From what I hear and have seen, it doesn't seem like the Mix really fits in at that location. They should've gone downtown if they wanted to be more "upscale."
