    Default Guitar Inquiry

    Hello musical folks.

Query. What sort of guitar would one recommend as a starter acoustic for myself? (and also where would one purchase, I've heard of Music Maxx, Tom Lee and Long&McQuade) Might I add, I've never tried to play guitar before, so I'm not looking to spend oodles of dollars should I not get the hang of it, lol. But I've loved guitar too long not to try really hard to learn to play. Plus, if I had to, I would pay for lessons if trying to learn by myself failed miserably, haha. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the online free lessons for a start. dailyfrail.com has a large following, as does http://mojocaster.proboards.com/
daily frail also has banjo lessons. There are many others. Don't buy too cheap of a guitar, you'll be disappoined.

Well I've seen acoustics for over $700 and such which I think is way too pricey. I was thinking around the $200-300 range, which I think is fair pricing for a beginner. They must have decent guitars for around that price I would imagine?

Don't be too turned off by a cheap guitar, like everything else the prices have dropped dramatically... I bought my younger son a "Denver" acoustic at Long and Mcquade for under $200 and while it may not have the sound or build of my other more expensive ones, it is a joy to play....
Seagull, LaPatrie and Norman are nice mid price guitars that are built in Canada and are great bang for the buck...

Well, I've been hunting around quite a bit. There is quite the selection of acoustics for around the price range I had in mind. And right now Tom Lee has some killer sales going on, lol. I'm not against a cheaper guitar, so long as it's decent quality and won't fall apart on me, haha. But it also needs to sound decent so I can write music to my lyrics and sing them. I'm going to keep searching, but ultimately, I will have to go into a store and just pick them up and see how I like them. Just like in Stranger than Fiction when Will Farrel sets his eyes on a seafoam green guitar and buys it, haha. Love it.

Handle and listen to as many guitars as you can in your search. Don't get hung up on brands (yet).
I used to play before life got in the way and my carpentry career pretty much did my hands in for such things. I've had the fortune of owning some high end electrics way back including a Gibson LesPaul custom and a Gibson SG. Sold the SG when my son was born and the LesPaul when my daughter was born. (see a trend here)
If your really commited to learning buy something decent and that you like! Good insterments hold their value better anyway.
My favorite acoustic (1977 Takamine) was found in a Vancouver pawn shop for a couple hundred several year back.
it may sound funny but once you get familiar with guitars you'll know when you find the right one, it will feel comfortable, sound awsome, and inspire your to play.
    Good luck!

I'm so very excited to start my search. I have a flute and a djembe. It's time I jumped on the guitar bandwagon because it's all I can think about. I just want to make some music and I've always seemed to resonate with the guitar, just never set it into action. And I know nothing about them! Which is too funny. I can't wait until I get some coin saved so I can go shopping. I'm the type of person who finds something they like (window shopping) and then when I get the monies, go back and it's gone. I would be very upset if that happened with an instrument so I will get the money first...I just need to make sure I don't impulse buy, but I'm pretty good when it comes to expensive purchases, lol. I've heard from a few different people in my inquiries, and Takamine has been mentioned a few times. But I completely agree, the sound will inspire creative fusion. Well, just make sure you bug your kids about it when they're older especially if they are being bratty, remind them you had to sell your guitars, haha.
