    Default Nanaimo Lakes closed?

We tried to go for a picnic day at Nanaimo Lakes yesterday - take advantage of the georgous day - but found the gates locked and a sign saying it closed October 2007 until further notice - anyone have any idea when it might be opening again?

I have never been there and was itching to give it a try!

I herd from a friend that the gates got locked by the bank because Ted Leroy logging didnt pay there bills and they are leasing the land from Timber west or somthing like that .They have a bunch of equipment still in the lakes area and are not able to get it till they pay the bank.I would imagine that there will be somone running the campsites by the May long weekend hopfully.ts such a pain to get in there somtimes its usually a 50/50 chance to get in there inless you know the back roads which require 4by4 to get in.One day i hope it becomes a city park or somthing so all residents can have acces without having to deal with third party companys using the land to make millions, and denying the people acess to the city of Nanaimo's so called lakes. They should be called timberwest lakes as they hold the keys to the gates and only let people in when they can make money from the campsites or the logs.sorry it really urkes me i grew up going to these lakes and love fishing the 4th lake but cant most of the time..

as far as i know nanaimo lakes road is a public road paid for by tax payers and it extends to just before 4th lake. so technically there not allowed to charge you two bucks to get in nor should there be gates were they are.again they dont own roads they own land around the roads so there gates should block you from there land not nanaimo lakes rd. i was up there this last summer and was turned around because i refused to pay 2 bucks to drive on a public rd.then i was told that if i go in somewhere else i would be charged with tresspassing, so i told the guy that there wasnt very many no teresspassing signs around in other places so good luck with the threaten charges. so if your looking to get in past 2cd lake gate go in at northwest bay and take 155n you will end up at moriarty lake and can go anywhere from there

    Thanks.

I live in Victoria, moved fro the Okanagan last summer. I'm finding it difficult to find some place to go fishing that isn't 2 hrs or more away. Looking at the back roads maps, I've been stopped more than once by gates. Very frustrating. Sure isn't like the interior were an hour from Kelowna gives you so many lakes to choose from. Any suggestions as to where I can go other than the bigger lakes as I only have a 12' with electric motor.

    Thanks
