    Default Long time Island Family

    Hello all.

Born and raised in Nanaimo, have been living in Victoria since 93. However, my parents still live in Nanaimo as do many of my best friends.

I have long had a deep interest in the history of Nanaimo and our Island and have found many of the threads fascinating. My family goes back on the Island/Nanaimo. Dad was raised in the Nanaimo area, Mom was born in Chemainus, raised in Ladysmith. If anyone remembers the "Ladysmith on the 49th Parallel, Bob Stuart Park" sign when you drove into Ladysmith, my Grandfather carved that sign.

Some names of people I recognize already. And I also recognize the name Flugel Horn from another forum I follow about BC Ferries.

I look forward to some interesting and enlightening conversations

Hey G-Naz, welcome here. I've likely seen your photo more than a few times in the Nanaimo Daily Free Press sports-page in the 1980's when you were a rep-team goalie.

Glad to hear that you follow our ferry forum. We have lots of nerdy fun over there.

    Cheers!

    Thanks Flugel,

Yes, my picture did happen to make it into the Free Press more than a few times. Wish I had thought to go down and get a copy of the original photo on a few of them, some were pretty good pictures.

Drove me nuts when the ferry forum changed names, I think it was originally "The Ferry Terminal"? Had to go to the Evergreen Fleet site to find a link. I will have to take a picture of the ferry my Grandfather built for me. It's one of the V Class - pre stretching. Has the internal ramps and fits 162 matchbox cars. Painted with the Dogwood Blue paint scheme. He also built ramps with bumpers for proper docking. As a very young ferry enthusiast, it was the best present a 6 year old could get!

Great to have you, G-Naz. I once built a ferry (blue and white) with LEGO. We kept it intact and played with it for months....
