Thread: Nanaimo Transit System

    Default Nanaimo Transit System

I hate the Nanaimo transit system.

Frequently, the buses arrive 5 minutes late and there were a couple times when buses leave too early (one time a bus left a stop 8 minutes earlier). They try to encourage people to be more environmentally friendly by taking transit but the bus system just makes it so frustrating to get to a destination that it makes me feel like I want to take a car everywhere.

One thing that I really don't like about the bus system is that some popular routes are not covered such as Rutherford Road and Turner Road, and there are many residential homes, senior homes and an elementary school in the area so it would make sense if there was a regular bus route in that area but there isn't. In fact, there is no bus that goes up or down Turner Road, and there is one bus that goes through Rutherford but that's only once early in the morning and once in the evening.

Plus, I hate the new schedule that they are coming up with for March 2012. I love the fact that there would be weekend service for 15 VIU Connector, but some of the route changes make it even more difficult for people to get to places. I also really hate how they'll be hitching up the fare prices for these new schedules and routes. Some of us are students or part-time employees that rely on the bus to get to places.

I know of people that work in the retail field and the bus service totally sucks for them. The transit service is terrible; especially for weekend schedule and stat holidays. I have to really feel bad for those trying to make a living; then have a problem trying to get to work in time; relying in the Nanaimo Bus service. The Naniamo bus service really sucks and caters to the #44 bus-University.

The transit in Nanaimo is the worst! If the city wants to attract more young people, they should really consider doing something about the bus system, especially for those who are students at the University.

if anything, they need to update their website to be mobile friendly, and to have trip/route planning.

I don't take the bus often, and if I do, its a learning adventure for my kid. Requires just a modicum of planning to get where you want when you want.

Nanaimo has a transit system? After living here for so long, I can't even call what Nanaimo has a system... more of a token.

I used to take the bus everyday to school, but in the Spring I got my N and bought a car. It's so much nicer to have your own transportation, because the Transit System here isn't any good.

Yes, Nanaimo bus service really sucks. It focuses TOO MUCH on the #4 service to and from the Vancouver Island University. What happened to giving service to the working people of Nanaimo that rely on getting to and from work on the 7 day cycle.

Sunday service is a REAL JOKE for those that rely on the bus to get to and from work.

I have to spend alot of time transporting those that can not get to and from work in a timely manner because the bus service sucks so bad.

Want to go green, forget the bus service. Yep they loose money because they have not got it together as to what the real transport demand is. The schedules are in the employees favour. Union. haha.
