Default Moving to Nanaimo July 2013

    Hi everyone,

My husband and I and young son are moving to Nanaimo next summer from the Northwest Territories. I am originally from Vancouver and hubby is from Calgary. It's another huge move, which we are looking forward to, but we are really not familiar with the neighbourhoods in Nanaimo. We are currently looking at the Wellington district and just am wondering if it is a good neighbourhood?!?

My hubby is a mechanic and he'll still be employed at a Diamond mine in the NWT, and I am in the airline industry. If anyone could comment on the Nanaimo airport and the airlines offered and if they would be good to work for or even if they are hiring?! I am a Customer Service Agent btw.

Thanks for the tips and we are so excited to be moving to BC!

    Hi Angie,

Nanaimo is a lovely city, I think you will enjoy it.

Not sure about Wellington area, but the only major airline in Nanaimo is Air Canada. There are some seaplane companies including Harbour Air, Tofino Air, Seaair, West Coast Air that you could try.

    Hi Angie,

I agree with ebusinesstutor. There are only a handful of small companies that mostly operate via float plane, the biggesto f which being harbour air, and then there is Air Canada out of the airport. There are other airlines at the airport but it is small. It is going through some growth of late so who knows you might find something. They have a website and I think I have seen some of their staff on here at some point.

The Wellington area is mostly shopping but the houses in back back of all of that may be walking distance to the lake(s) and other parks. We have that sort of thing all over town though as parks, lakes and ocean are everywhere. The only neighbourhood I steer people away from fairly consistently is the Haliburton Nicol area but even that is going through its improvements lately and more to come. You will see some people complain about the Harewood area on here and around town, but other than a couple of streets I think such opinions are outdated or from someone who needs to travel more.

I wrote more on this here as it comes up a lot on the forum.
