IF I EVER SHOWED UP TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT DRUNK I WOULD BE SENT HOME.
IT IS UNACCEPTABLE. UNACCEPTABLE.
It has just come to my attention that there is drinking going on in Firehalls. Call me naive but this is shocking to me. There are only two firehalls on the island that DO NOT allow alcohol on the premesis.
One person told me that they quit volunteer firefighting because ppl seemed more interested in drinking than anything else.
The same person told me that once the fire chief (not sure where) showed up to an accident and the police officer there smelt it on his breath and he (the fire chief) ended up losing his job.
I would expect that a firefighter who showed up to battle a blaze they would be SOBER. Their life is on the line and possibly the lives of others.
What makes anyone think it is okay for there to be booze in a firehall???
This is atrocious and this behviour should not be ACCEPTED or IGNORED.
I have heard of beer being in some fire hall fridges. The guys pretty much live there. How legal that is, I have no idea. But I have yet to hear about any fire fighters drunk on the job.
