    Default Current bars & pubs

I'm not sure if anyone ever looks at this board, but here it goes.

So I'm new to Nanaimo night-life (and the bar scene, actually). I was looking through the old posts in this board to see what the locals think, but it seems most of the posts are several years old and sometimes refer to places that don't even exist anymore. I'm mainly looking for places where people go to meet singles for hook-ups / casual sex. (Good food is nice too) Since I'm a young guy (early 20's) I don't really want to head out to those places that are mainly frequented by old folks, or ones that don't get any women in them.

There was one thread where someone was talking about some places as a "meat market":
Well Phil I must say you did a pretty run down of the bars but I might add from a females perspective, I think the Queens is more of an " older persons " meat market and I think the Press Room is more of the " younger persons " meat market. Grizzly I think is good times mixed with a pick up place.
Unfortunately, neither the Press Room nor The Grizzly seem to exist any more. So I'm not sure what places could be described like this.

I also tend to prefer a more relaxed atmosphere to noisy and crowded, but I know I can't be fussy in Nanaimo. Especially not with places like bars. I might also be ok with cougars, although I'd prefer meeting women closer to my age.

So, can anyone give me a rundown of local pubs & bars in Nanaimo? What they're like in atmosphere, typical clientele, busy times, menu etc. Or at least recommend places that might be to my liking, anywhere I might have some luck.

Plenty of young people at the Queens still, and over at the Cambie -- just go to either place when there is a "young" show happening.

Personally, I would recommend Mr. Internet for the kind of "speed dating" you're pursuing. That way, you meet more people who are looking for the same thing, and you have fewer awkward situations.

Thanks! I will check out those places.

On the topic of Internet dating, I find the sites that actually have more than 10 real females in Nanaimo (and don't have bots that remind me I need to pay $$ to private message anyone) are typically looking for more serious things, and their profiles often mention they're not interested in hooking up. Or maybe they just say that to ward off creepy guys who message them with rude crap, hah. Either way, there are very few females whose profiles indicate they are looking for non-serious, casual sex type things as far as I can tell. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places.

Speaking from another guys point of view, if you were not so anxious to get laid, you might have a better chance. The only thing you may catch is a disease.

Well, I don't think I'm "anxious" about it. Maybe a little frustrated sometimes, but it's not like I act needy/desperate to women I meet in person.

Sorry, I can't understand what you're saying here. If you're talking about getting STD's from strangers, what else would I be worried about catching? Or are you saying I'll get a disease from anxiety?
