Thread: Nanaimo Hospital

    Default Nanaimo Hospital

My grandmother trained at the Third Nanaimo Hospital in the late 1910s to early 1920s. Is this the site of the current hospital, and are any of the early buildings depicted in this postcard still in existence? I have a newspaper article with a picture of my grandmother and other staff standing in front of these older buildings (added newspaper clipping on edit--my grandmother is on far right).

    Many thanks,

Great tailtwister; thanks for the link! Looks like all the original buildings have been replaced. By looking at Google street view, the camera on the newspaper photo was most likely on Kennedy Street just north of Franklyn while the postcard view is from southeast of the intersection.

The top photograph was taken from the alley between Kennedy and Milton.
The staff are on the property on the eastern side of Kennedy across the street from the Hospital.
The building to the right of the stairs are is still there, a part of the existing structure.
The stairs area also still there which help in determining where the photograph was taken from
The second photograph was taken from the same laneway opposite Franklyn then the first.
