Default Moving senior parents from another health authority to VIHA

Just wondering if anyone has any recent experience with this.

My senior dad is in a funded bed in a care home in Fraser Health (in wheelchair and moderate Alzheimers) and mom will soon need supportive or assisted living (Dementia). We would like to bring them over here to help support them as they are alone over there (closest family is us in Nanaimo) and having problems which is resulting in a decreased quality of life that our regular presence would significantly improve.
We are being told that the wait list could be years to get them over here (and essentially being treated like a non-resident).
    This is ridiculous as
    a) he is already in the BC system (in another region) and has been a resident of BC for over 30 years
    b) he could be dead by then
    c) being nearby, we can help reduce the load on the system.

Any insight on how to speed the process? Who to talk to.

i am sorry to hear this. i do not have specific advice for this problem but i can tell you VIHA loves to make you jump through hoops and do tap dancing handstands so the faster you are to fulfill their requests the better for you. but ya' know what...IT STILL TAKES FOREVER!!!

Sorry to hear of your problem. Your best hope is for a change in government, but even that process will take time, for there is much building to be done. Our present government is so pro business that ordinary people are forgotten. The for-profit residences built with the endorsement of our present government are seriously overbuilt and have many empty spaces, but publicly operated spaces are at a premium.

Ms Clark has been trying to woo voters during the past few weeks. Perhaps there are some publicly funded senior care facilities that she will re-announce, or better yet, fund some new ones.
