While driving through Nanaimo recently, my family and I drove along "Boban Drive". We were most curious about the name and wondered where it originated. Can anyone shed light on the mystery?

The industrial park containing Mostar Rd. and Boban Dr. was developed by a gentleman named Cyril Bubalo, who ran Boban Construction. Mostar Rd. is named after a town or city in Bosnia-Herzegovnia, the nationallity and I believe hometown of Mr. Bubalo. Googling Boban, comes up with a soccer player of the same decent, who had an exceptional career in Europe. Hope this helps with the queiry.
Does anyone else find it confusing that there are so many B____n names around here? Boban, Beban, Bowen...![]()

Any city can be layed out in a grid with a combination of numbered or named streets and avenues. Your comment about confusing is absolutely correct, but we Nanaimoites have a different term for it. We call it quaint.
Beban, Bowen and Boban sound nothing alike to a Canadian. Quit watching american television![]()
Didn't say they sounded alike. Just said there were a lot of B___n names. And I watch very little American television, thank you.
I have had people miss events that were being held at Bowen and they went to Beban and vice versa, to the closeness in names does cause confusion.

When discussing the two, add " Bowen Park near the Curling Rinks downtown" or for Beban Park, mention it is "near the Northfield Road entrance to the Parkway Bypass" or "Use the entry way off of Dorman Road near the firehall". That confirms the location within the Park. Use your own judgement in helping them come to you.
People come to Nanaimo and expect to find the Soccer Fields at Bowen Park. They really want Beban!
