Multicultural Meeting Place
Like most cities in Canada, Nanaimo is a hub of international activity, bringing together peoples from all over the world. Our new Port of Nanaimo Conference Centre will facilitate a more cosmopolitan culture Downtown, too, as groups from all over the world are flown here to meet and to enjoy our serene waterfront.
A lot of people come to Nanaimo to study English. Malaspina University-College hosts thousands of international students from South America, Turkey, Japan, China, and a lot of other places. It's really great to see these students spilling out into the rest of the community, too.
Moreover, as a prime retirement destination, Nanaimo attracts immigrants from a lot of wealthy areas. Our clean, uncrowded streets and our mild (compared to the rest of Canada) weather, our inexpensive market – those who can come here, do.
