All About the Harbour City

Pender Island

This is really two islands, North Pender and South Pender, which are usually referred to simply as Pender Island. It makes sense to give them a single name because they're only separated by a dredged canal and a little bridge. But it's also useful to refer to them separately, because they have distinct properties.

North Pender is more populous and has a lot more development in general, while South Pender is where you'll find a quieter atmosphere with less amenities.

Getting to the Penders

You can get to Pender Island via BC Ferries from Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay, and from the air or by boat.

Things to do on Pender

Activities on Pender often occur in the artistic and social spheres; performing arts and craftwork, dance, and dialogue are common - but there's certainly nothing wrong with the natural features of these islands. It's just that the 2000 or so people who live here permanently have built a culture of involvement and community, which is what the Gulf Islands are so special for.

There is hiking and watersports on these islands, and the marine parks feature fossils, arbutus groves, sandstone tidepools, and beautiful views of the Georgia Strait and other gulf islands.
