All About the Harbour City

Rutherford Ridge

The North End of Nanaimo is fortunate, because it's wrapped around a beautiful example of that rocky hilltop terrain that is so characteristic of Eastern Vancouver Island. Right between Long Lake and Pipers Pub as the crow flies, Rutherford Ridge has a decent-sized undeveloped area, with good rock-climbing runs and some interesting overhangs, as well as beautiful views of Nanaimo.

Directions to Rutherford Ridge

Our apologies - we are not familiar enough with Rutherford Ridge or the space around it to give proper directions. However, if you turn off the Island Highway onto Rutherford Rd (as if you were going to Rutherford Mall), you will soon arrive at Uplands Rd. Ask at the gas station there, or drive north- or southeast and watch for access trails.

Rutherford-Carrington Trail

There is a ravine with a trail featuring boardwalks and railings and bridges. Information and maps are available on this page of our Nanaimo forum.
