Swimming to Protection Island

You can reach Protection Island by ferry or private boat, but why bother? It only takes about 40 minutes to swim to Protection from the Yacht Club.

It's really not a good idea to do this, unless:

• You're a good swimmer
• The water's warm (I did it on a hot July evening)
• The sea's calm
• The tide isn't too low
• You stay alert for boaters and do your best to be seen
