New Condo Developments in Nanaimo
Apartment style condo developments are sprouting up all over Nanaimo, especially downtown, around Bowen Road, and in North Nanaimo. This page lists new condo developments that are in the planning phase or have already started construction.

The Met - 6540 Metral Drive
We've all been watching this development progress - it's the place near the Home Depot and Milano's in North Nanaimo. This is a PRIMO location if you want to live right in the middle of shopping amenities, between two highways (convenience) and just seven minutes from ocean beaches or mountain forests. There are five storeys with underground parking - the top floor has a common-area patio for enjoying distant ocean and mountain views. The listings went live today (September 16, 2019) with 1-bed units starting at $295,000 +GST. Fifth floor units have 10' ceilings and range from 1-bed for $360k and up, to 2-bed units for $440k-$500k.
This development will be west of the Texada condo building between Uplands Drive and Costco, on Sentinel Drive - close to the Simonholt restaurant. The first phase is a low-rise (6 storeys) but phase 2 involves two 20-storey buildings (a first for North Nanaimo) flanking a 5-storey building.
The development application was only submitted to the city in Dec2018, so it will likely be some time before anything materializes, but it will be interesting to watch this as it plays out.
A six storey condo is planned for 20 Barsby Ave just above Barsby Park in downtown Nanaimo. Completion is expected sometime in 2021 but units are already listed for sale.

This 40-unit multi-use building is planned for the corner of Brierly Road and Estevan Road (on the water side of Terminal Park Mall). The design has the 6 storeys "stepping" down the slope to maximize the ocean views, two levels of underground parking, a club room and communal rooftop garden, and a cafe with outdoor seating.
This is still in the re-zoning stage as of this writing (Jan 2019) but I look forward to seeing this place built!

A proposal has been submitted to the City for two 3-story condo buildings with an interesting aspect - the historic E&N Railway will pass right between them! With only a couple of trains running per week these days, the train shouldn't be a problem - especially when you consider the likelihood of the rails being replaced with a multi-use recreational pathway in coming years.
The location is on Milton St, just east of Albert St and the Superette grocery store. The building west of the tracks will be 555 Milton St. with 20 units. The other building (on the corner with Hecate St) will be 575 Milton St with 14 homes plus another 4 live/work units.
