Hammond Bay area location mapHammond Bay is a smallish body of water near Neck Point Park, but the name is used for a larger area in North Nanaimo between McGuffie Road and the Biological Station.

The homes in Hammond Bay are built to appreciate the stunning ocean views that are typical for the area. Most development down by the water occurred in previous decades, and those homes enjoy mature landscaping and easy access to Hammond Bay Rd and its buses. There are always new homes being constructed in the higher elevations, too, looking way out over the Salish Sea to the Coastal Mountains and Vancouver.

The hilly terrain spaces the homes out nicely, making it appear as a quaint village over Pipers Lagoon at night. It's something you have to see - I recommend going to Pipers Lagoon for the sunset, then stay for the lights to come on in the hillside homes across the lagoon.

Stephenson Point Homes

This is a hillside neighbourhood at the south end of the Hammond Bay area, overlooking Newcastle Island and Departure Bay, and/or the bigger waters of the gulf.

Many of the homes in Stephenson Point are luxurious, some with elaborate rockwork steps or ramps leading down to the street or to the rocky beach. There are also some older homes in the area.

Stephenson Point is a 5-8 minute drive from the Departure Bay ferry terminal, a 10-13 minute drive from Downtown, and 9-12 minutes from Woodgrove Mall.
